Basement Flooring in Seguin TX - a floor that goes down on a dry, tested slab
Damp smell, a cold slab or a dark stain by the wall? We test the concrete first, so your new floor stays put.

What's the right floor for my basement, and what has to happen first?
Basement flooring in Seguin is a new floor, usually wood, carpet or a coated concrete finish, laid over the slab of a room below ground, and it only holds up when that slab is tested and dry before anything goes down.
Most basement floor calls start with something you've noticed: a musty smell, a cold floor, a dark patch near a wall or carpet that never quite dries out. Finishing the room before dealing with that can make health problems worse and lead to real damage, so the slab comes before the floor you pick.
The price turns on the size of the room, the floor you choose and how much work the slab needs first, from cracks to old glue to damp. The schedule turns on whether the slab passes its moisture test and how long the room needs to settle before wood arrives, and my written estimate gives you your own figure.
- Covers basements and other rooms below ground, laid right over the existing concrete slab.
- Wood, carpet or coated concrete, picked to suit how you'll actually use the space.
- Damp problems get sorted out first, then grinding and crack repair before the floor goes down.
What happens after you call us about a basement floor?
From the first call to the final walk-through, you deal with me and our own crew. Here's how a basement floor job goes, and where the slab test fits in.
Call or send a message
Call (830) 340-0036 or use the form, and we set up a time for me to come see the room. Tell me about any past water or damp spots so I know where to look first.
I check the slab myself
I walk the floor, take the moisture readings, look for cracks and ask how you plan to use the room. You get a written estimate based on what the slab actually shows, not a guess from a photo.
Our crew preps and installs
If you go ahead, we set a date, and our own crew does the prep and the install with me running the job. If the slab needs drying out or repair, that happens before any flooring comes through the door.
We walk the floor together
Before we pack up, we walk the finished floor with you and look at the edges, the transitions and the surface. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.

(830) 340-0036Questions Seguin homeowners ask about basement floors
These are the questions I hear most when I'm standing on a basement slab. Where a rule or a guideline decides the answer, I say so, so you can tell it apart from my own advice.
How do I know if my basement slab is dry enough for a wood floor?
You only know once it's been moisture tested, because the national wood flooring guidelines say every concrete subfloor must be tested, with moisture controls in place, before any wood floor goes in. They treat the test as required no matter how dry the room looks, and wood goes down only when no known moisture problem is left that could damage the floor, the house or the people in it. Ask any installer how they'll test your slab, and I take those readings myself on the first visit.
Can carpet go on a basement slab?
Yes, once the slab is warm and dry. A university extension guide written for Minnesota basements gives that advice because mold and mildew can grow in damp carpet. If your slab tests damp, we deal with the moisture before any carpet goes down.
How long does it take to put a wood floor in a basement?
Plan on at least 5 days before the wood even arrives, because the wood flooring guidelines say the home's heating and cooling system should run for a minimum of 5 days first, and longer when conditions are wet. The install comes after that and after the slab passes its test, so the moisture reading is really where your schedule starts.
Who applies for the flooring permit in Seguin, TX?
In Seguin, the licensed contractor on the job submits the permit application and plans, and the city requires every contractor to be registered with its Development Services Center before any permit is issued. If the city says your job needs one, we apply as the contractor and you get a copy, and we're fully licensed and insured. If you own and live in a home registered as your homestead with the Guadalupe County Appraisal District, you can do the work yourself with the proper permits.
Do Seguin floodplain rules apply to a basement remodel?
They can if your house is in the 100-year floodplain, because the City of Seguin issues permits for all development there, and development includes improving a structure. If the work costs 50 percent or more of the building's market value before work starts, it counts as a substantial improvement, and the building then has to meet flood rules for new construction, including a lowest floor two feet above the base flood elevation. I check where your house stands with the city before we start.
How much does basement flooring cost near Seguin?
Flooring installation in the San Antonio area usually costs about $4 to $22 per square foot. Where your basement lands in that range depends on the floor you pick, how much prep the slab needs and whether damp has to be dealt with first. My written estimate gives you your own figure.
Basement flooring in Seguin and the cities nearby
Flooring isn't on Seguin's no-permit list, so whether your job needs a permit is the city's call, and I check with the city's building office before we start. We do the same work in New Braunfels, Schertz and nearby cities.
